Findings to help prevent or reduce future risks from aquatic animal disease across sub-Saharan Africa
Casammak Aquaculture, a leading specialist in African aquaculture, and ThinkAqua, a prominent global aquaculture nonprofit organization, have released a groundbreaking new report that could lead to building a more resilient and secure future for the sub-Saharan African aquaculture industry.
Based on information gathered from an open-access online survey, the report delves into the perspectives and requirements of individuals and organizations from four key stakeholder groups: private sector, government, education training research and NGOs. Focused on aquatic health, it provides invaluable insights into the perceptions of various stakeholders and offers key recommendations for bolstering the sector.
The key findings provide individuals and organizations within the private sector, government, research and NGOs with valuable guidance for advancing essential infrastructure that can help prevent and reduce the risks of aquatic animal diseases across sub-Saharan Africa.
While offering a comprehensive assessment of the aquaculture landscape in sub-Saharan Africa, a major focus of the survey is on understanding the activities and specific needs of the private sector. The intent is to foster enhanced support for the burgeoning commercial industry across the continent.
This is reportedly the first-ever open-access online survey designed to understand and document the views of the various private sector stakeholders in sub-Saharan African aquaculture whose work is regularly involved with and impacted by aquatic animal health.
