India’s Fourth Group Attains Four-Star BAP Status
Congratulations to Apex Frozen Foods Pvt. Ltd., India’s fourth group to achieve four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) status for shrimp since early April, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in early May.
Four-star BAP status denotes that the processing plants, farms, hatcheries and feed mills from which a group sources are BAP certified. It’s the highest such achievement in the BAP program.
Apex Frozen Foods achieved four-star BAP status on confirmation that it sources feed from the recently certified BAP-certified Avanti Feeds Ltd. feed mill. Also BAP certified are the company’s processing plant, IOM Farm Group 1 and IOM Farm Group 2 farm sites and the NSR Aqua Farms Pvt. Ltd. hatchery, from which it sources seed.
The IOM Farm Group 1 and IOM Farm Group 2 farm sites consist of more than 500 acres of ponds, and the company intends to pursue BAP certification for another 500 acres of ponds within the next year, so the majority of its shrimp would originate from BAP-certified farms.
“We are committed to sustainability in aquaculture, and it is our goal to produce quality seafood by implementing and advocating environmentally and socially responsible practices,” said Apex Frozen Foods in a statement. “We aim to produce all of our product as BAP certified by implementing these sustainable practices in all of our future projects. We appreciate the efforts of our farming team and thank BAP for its support and guidance.”
