Hiddenfjord Becomes First Four-Star BAP-Certified Producer in the Faroe Islands
Hiddenfjord has become the first company in the Faroe Islands to attain Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) four-star certification, the Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) has announced.
Hiddenfjord is family-owned and is the only 100 percent Faroese salmon farming company. Completing certification of their hatchery, Futaklettur, at the end of February was the final step to all their facilities achieving BAP certification. As feed is sourced from BAP-certified mills of Skretting and Havsbrún, the company now has the maximum BAP star designation and use of the four-star logo.
Producing high-quality Atlantic salmon for fresh and frozen markets, Hiddenfjord’s range includes fresh whole salmon, fresh salmon fillets, frozen vacuum-packed fillets and frozen salmon heads, backbones and offcuts. The company does not use any antibiotics or hormones in its farming practices.
“In our interactions with business partners, the BAP accreditation emerges as a marker of excellence, epitomizing our dedication to premium salmon production,” said Óli Hansen, sales director at Hiddenfjord. “Attaining our fourth star is not merely an accomplishment but a testament to our relentless pursuit of premium quality and sustainability. We look forward to sharing its implications with our customers, ensuring they benefit from our commitment to sustainable salmon farming.”
“It’s been an impressive journey for Hiddenfjord to certify their whole production chain,” said Iain Shone, director of market development-Europe at GSA. “They committed to four-star from the outset, put a huge amount of work into this project and I know the whole team is really proud of their achievement. Well done!”
