GAA Adds To Market Development Team In Australia, New Zealand
The Global Aquaculture Alliance welcomes Norm Grant and Kent Inglis to the market development team of GAA’s Best Aquaculture Practices division.
Grant and Inglis will act as business development manager for BAP in Australia and New Zealand, respectively.
“We are very excited that Norm and Kent are joining GAA as it carries out its mission of feeding the world through responsible aquaculture. Both bring unique yet extremely valuable experience and abilities that will help GAA, its supplier partners and the region’s retailers continue their collective journey toward sustainable aquaculture,” said Peter Redmond, BAP’s VP of market development.
Grant is executive chairman of the Seafood Importers Association of Australasia (SIAA), representing three-quarters of Australia’s seafood supply. At SIAA, he leads regular trade missions to Southeast Asia to familiarize Australian government, industry and buyers with the region’s food-safety and biosecurity standards in aquaculture and explores opportunities for technology transfer, joint ventures and manufacturing from Australian raw materials.
Grant’s background in seafood dates back years. He began as an offshore fisherman, followed by positions in numerous industry bodies involved in fishing, marketing, and research and development. He has operated businesses in each of these sectors, including as a partner of PSM Consulting P/L, which undertook about 50 aquaculture-related projects in Australia and Southeast Asia in the 1990s. He was also publisher and editor of Seafood Australia, a national trade magazine published between 1990 and 2006.
Inglis’ background in seafood also dates back years. He has acted as the international marketing manager of New Zealand’s largest mussel processor has held roles in the Pacific oyster and salmon industries. He gained substantial knowledge of the salmon sector and new species such as seriola (kingfish) and pargus (snapper) with a 10-year ownership in a finfish aquaculture venture. Also, Inglis managed the sale of a large integrated aquaculture operation in 2011, and in recent years has maintained an association with the industry in advisory and consulting roles.
