Four Stars For Salmones Camanchaca
Salmones Camanchaca S.A. is now capable of offering four-star Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) salmon with the certification of its Rio Petrohue hatchery in Chile, the Global Aquaculture Alliance announced in late November.
Four-star is the highest designation in the BAP program, signifying that a product originates from BAP-certified processing plant, farm, hatchery and feed mill.
Camanchaca recently added its Rio Petrohue hatchery to its list of BAP-certified facilities, which includes one salmon processing plant and 17 salmon farm sites in addition to one mussel processing plant and three mussel farm sites. Additionally, six of the feed mills from which the company sources feed are BAP-certified.
At the end of October, 357 salmon, steelhead and trout farms worldwide were BAP certified, representing more than 788,000 metric tons of annual production.
BAP is the world’s most comprehensive third-party aquaculture certification program, encompassing the entire aquaculture production chain and with standards addressing environmental responsibility, social responsibility, food safety, animal health and welfare and traceability.
