BAP’s Heerin Named GAA Special Advisor

The Global Aquaculture Alliance (GAA), the leading standards-setting organization for aquaculture seafood, has asked Jim Heerin to serve in a new role as special advisor to the GAA.
In his new role, Heerin will advise GAA Executive Director Wally Stevens, GAA President George Chamberlain and GAA Chief Financial Officer Jeff Fort on matters related to GAA’s growth initiatives.
Heerin has been instrumental in integrating the Aquaculture Certification Council (ACC) with GAA to manage the Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) certification program, and he has assisted with the transfer of some certification management and administrative activities from GAA’s Crystal River, Fla., office to its new Lynnwood, Wash., office.
Before the ACC was fully integrated with the GAA in 2010, Heerin acted as the ACC’s president.
“GAA and the BAP program are enjoying tremendous success because of Jim’s leadership and emphasis on program integrity,” said Stevens.
Added Heerin, “I look forward to working closely with the GAA board and the executive committee to further the organization’s commitment to environmentally and socially responsible aquaculture and a safe seafood supply.”
