BAP Adds Bureau Veritas To Auditing Team
The Global Aquaculture Alliance’s Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) division is pleased to announce the addition of Bureau Veritas to its team of BAP-approved third-party certification bodies.
In a service agreement between the two organizations, Bureau Veritas Vietnam will be the technical center managing all related activities of Bureau Veritas Network in auditing and certification for processing plants, aquaculture farms, hatcheries and feed mills that apply for BAP certification.
Based in Ho Chi Minh City, Bureau Veritas Vietnam is a division of Bureau Veritas, a global leader in testing, inspection and certification, delivering high quality services to help clients meet the growing challenges of quality, safety, environmental protection and social responsibility.
Bureau Veritas Vietnam joins Acoura Marine (formerly Food Certification International), SGS, Sai Global (formerly Global Trust Certification), and NSF Food Safety Certification LLC as the ISO/IEC Guide 17065-accredited certification bodies (CBs) approved by BAP to perform BAP audits and certification. The use of independent, accredited CBs allows certification against the BAP standards to comply with international requirements for the operation of credible global certification schemes.
“To achieve BAP approval, CBs must go through a rigorous application process in order to demonstrate the organization has sufficient management resources, competency and expertise in seafood and aquaculture,” said BAP VP Lisa Goche. “These validated capabilities and sector knowledge that the four, now five, BAP-approved CBs and their auditors bring is a key strength of the BAP program in ensuring the integrity of the scheme. Moreover, the BAP program has been experiencing significant growth over the past several years. As a result, increasing the number of recognized CBs with the addition of Bureau Veritas is an important step in ensuring BAP is able to meet rising demand.”
“Bureau Veritas had developed a specific seafood department worldwide, with specialists for fishing and aquaculture supply chain for more than 20 years and continues to invest in accreditations like BAP for a better portfolio of services worldwide. We hope this new accreditation will be useful for our clients,” added Bureau Veritas Global Seafood Manager Laurent Galloux.
